THE CAMPAIGN - XEMA E CLARA
This crowdfunding campaign is one of Entrelampo’s first initiatives. We intend to renovate an old warehouse and the adjacent land to bring "Xema e Clara”, a free-range chicken farm for the sale of eggs, to life.
We are launching this campaign because we believe that it is society itself that should directly decide on the social viability of this initiative.
ABOUT ENTRELAMPO
Entrelampo is a non-profit organisation whose objective is to create employment for people with severe mental health issues through social economy initiatives. In this case, Special Employment Centres for Social Initiatives.
WHY ENTRELAMPO?
Only 5% of people living with severe mental health conditions are currently employed, despite the fact that around 90% say they want to work. . Even among those who do find employment, most lose their jobs within six months. This is a serious social justice issue that undermines this group's fundamental rights.
The reasons behind this situation are complex, ranging from health-related factors — including symptoms that can disrupt education and work experience, as well as the side effects of treatment — to social barriers rooted in ignorance and prejudice. The stigma surrounding mental health issues affects every level of society: civil, corporate, political, social and even health This is the real bottleneck in which all efforts made get stuck.
To provide employment to this group is essential. Beyond financial independence, work contributes to cognitive development, daily structure, and social connection. It also improves social recognition, replacing the role of “patient” with worker, and turning recovery into something tangible and achievable.
OUR PROPOSAL
Our commitment is firmly focused on job creation as the cornerstone of a comprehensive employment project. To achieve this goal, we will develop social enterprises within the agri-food sector, placing strong emphasis on visibility, image, and public recognition.
Our project is built on three core pillars:
Together with social economy organisations across Galicia, we want to contribute to the transition towards a more humane, responsible, and fairer economy.
As mentioned, this crowdfunding campaign is dedicated to one of our first initiatives: a free-range hen farm producing and selling eggs under the brand “XEMA E CLARA”.
Our aim is to renovate an old warehouse and its surrounding land located in the municipality of Chantada (Lugo), transforming and adapting it to farm for free-range hens.
To achieve our goal, we require an initial investment between €30,000 to €85,000. With the minimum amount, we would be able to carry out a basic renovation of the building, which would allow us to start operating, with a reduced number of hens. If we reach the optimal fundraising target, we would be able to increase the number of free-range hens and, consequently, the number of workers, which are the true target of the project. In this case, we would create jobs for five people, three of them with psychosocial disabilities.
This project is driven by the alarming unemployment rates affecting this group, which prevent any real possibility of recovery and empowerment towards full social inclusion, and ultimately lead to exclusion and poverty.
Furthermore, all the social and healthcare resources currently invested in addressing unemployment come up against the reality of discrimination within the labour market. For this reason, we are committed to creating meaningful social enterprises as the foundation of any employment project, while also strengthening the efforts of all the organisations already involved in this field.
More broadly, we call on everyone who believes in the principles of the Social and Solidarity Economy to take part in this initiative.
Entrelampo is made up of a group of people, many of whom work professionally in the field of mental health, committed to addressing the social challenges faced by people living with severe mental health conditions, and especially the employment crisis affecting this group.
In 2021, we will also launch operations at an organic horticultural production centre in the municipality of Santiago de Compostela, which will create jobs for six people, four of them belonging to the collective.
Xema e Clara is the second of the two initiatives through which we aim to launch this project full of hope.
The current board of directors is composed of:
JUAN SORIANO BARCELÓ: Graduated in Medicine from the “Universitat Rovira i Virgili” in Tarragona in 2009. He specialised in Psychiatry at the Psychiatry Department of Santiago de Compostela over a four-year period until 2014. He furthered his training through a “Master’s Degree in Neurosciences” at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and a “Master’s Degree in Psychogeriatrics” at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He participated in the international cooperation project “Mental Health for All” in Peru, led by the NGO Juan Ciudad in 2013. He currently works in the Psychiatry Department of Santiago de Compostela.
FERNANDO CASAL COUTO: Holds a degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Over the past 17 years, he has developed his professional career within the field of Information Technology following vocational training in Computer Systems and Networks. Between 2014 and 2019, he combined his work in a hospital logistics company with studying for a degree in Nutrition at Universidad Isabel I de Castilla. He currently works as a dietitian and nutritionist at the Nutricionstellae centre.
LUCÍA IGLESIAS RODRÍGUEZ: Graduated in Physiotherapy from the “Universitat Rovira i Virgili” in Tarragona in 2006. She continued her training with a postgraduate qualification in Physiotherapy in “Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery” at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2008, and a Master’s Degree in Neurorehabilitation at the “Institut Guttmann” through the same university in 2010. From 2013 to 2019, she worked as a physiotherapist within the services of the Regional Ministry of Social Policy of the Galician Government. She currently works as a physiotherapist for the Galician Health Service.
IVÁN CAÑÁS BELLO: Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2011. He also holds a degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from Universidad Isabel I de Castilla (2013–2017), and an MBA in “Business Administration and Management” from IFFE Business School in 2017. Since 2011, he has worked in financial and technical management roles within various Galician bakery and confectionery groups.
JACOB NOGUEIRA FERREIRO (technical director): Agricultural Technical Engineer specialised in mechanisation and rural construction, graduated from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2009. He later specialised further in the field of Organic Agriculture, both technically and educationally. Between 2009 and 2016, he worked as a technical manager for various agricultural organisations and taught courses in agroecology. From 2016 to 2020, he served as coordinator for a cooperation project run by the NGO Mundukide Fundazioa in Mozambique, focused on socioeconomic development through agriculture.
Entrelampo was created with the aim of generating employment opportunities for people living with mental health conditions through highly visible Social Economy initiatives focused on the agri-food sector. “Xema e Clara” is one of our first projects.
Fighting unemployment among this group, which is at risk of social exclusion, is a responsibility we share as a society if we are to reduce the high levels of poverty and inequality they face.
Economic growth must be inclusive to provide sustainable jobs and promote equality.
Sustainable economic growth will require societies to create the conditions that allow people to have quality jobs.
To reduce inequalities, policies should be universal in principle, paying attention to the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized populations.
